What happened to all the media questions about the stolen 2024 election?
#AskGregAQuestion returns to answer this question and more
Q: What happened to all the media questions about the stolen 2024 election? [via @uncletantra.bsky.social]
A: American media, unlike my outlets at the UK’s BBC and elsewhere, is frightened of discussing vote suppression — and will NEVER report on vote suppression after an election. Notice that The New York Times and others will talk about some suppression techniques (purges, voter ID etc) but will NEVER report that these tactics changed the outcome of an election. Strange: the right wing is always voting in these horrific vote-denying schemes — often covered by The Times and NPR, and all the good and great outlets — but they NEVER follow up after an election and say, “This overturned the vote.”
Q: The media has been largely silent with regard to your expose on the 2024 voter suppression. It makes sense that the media has been silent: but why has everyone else? Why isn't this shouted to the rooftops? [via @thornsoftristan.bsky.social]
A: There is another problem in discussing vote suppression: White people. Let me be blunt: White people want to talk about Musk’s spiders from Mars changing voting machines, because that threatens white voters. I find that most white voters simply refuse to acknowledge the devastation caused by Jim Crow tactics — challenges, purges, “spoiled” and rejected ballots, provisional ballots rejected (47%!). These are measurable, verifiable vote losses almost exclusively affecting voters of color. I’m not a racist, I have nothing against white people. (After all, my parents were white.) I’m just telling you that “Progressives” tend to be as racist in discussing vote suppression as the right wing.
Q: Are you still taking the findings from your investigation for voter suppression in the 2024 presidential election last year to federal court? [via @friendlyalien.bsky.social]
A: Yes, I already went to federal court as a witness for Black Lives Matter, NAACP Georgia, and RainbowPUSH. One of our attorneys was Fred Gray, the lawyer who represented Rosa Parks and MLK Jr. He appeared in Atlanta court with me on his 90th birthday!
Q: Are the Democrats and Republicans against having a mandatory audit of our federal elections officially? It would be great to have elected officials on record regarding this. [via Stephen V]
A: What the hell would an “audit” do? Nada.
Q: Should we adopt a similar strategy as the GOP and try to have Republicans thrown off voter rolls to even the playing field? [via @rodneyo13.bsky.social]
A: No, no, no, no, no, no! The Black, Hispanic and Asian-American voting rights groups are unanimous: If you’ve ever had your ballot denied to you, you never want to do that to anyone else. I see your strategic point, but the voting rights leaders have too much integrity to impose this horror on anyone, even the bastard that blocked Major Turner’s vote. (See our film, Vigilantes Inc. It’s FREE!)
Q: How can we start a social justice movement that addresses the lack of rights for unsheltered, homeless people? That's a group that's constantly ignored on many levels. [ via @brgooley2.bsky.social]
A: YOU can start it. Begin by going into shelters and registering voters. The shelter is a legit address though the GOP did “cage” (challenge) thousands of voters at shelters in Florida as I reviewed in my book Armed Madhouse and on BBC’s Newsnight.
Q: In a country where 40-50 percent of people don't vote, what do you think can be done to improve voter turnout? [via @omgpodcast22.bsky.social]
A: The percentage turnout for the “voting eligible” population in the last presidential was 61.3%, down from 65.3% in 2020. The plummet in registered voters who did vote in 2024 was devastating to Democrats. (Some of that is explained by new vote suppression techniques — people TRY to voter but can’t — at 3.55 million.) But most of the decline in balloting by registrants is a group of several million made up of what we statisticians call the Selfish Asshole Demographic.
Q: I'm a semi-retired journalist and believe you are one of the, if not the, greatest investigative reporters of all time. Have a question for you - I hear the same detestables are throwing voters off the rolls RIGHT NOW. Where are the Dems on this? (in their usual coma?) Have any information on this? [via @staywoke15.bsky.social]
A: There is a fantasy that the Democrat Party will protect its voters from racist suppression. Don’t hold your breath. Only YOU can save your vote. No political party will do it for you. Check your registration on line. Then join Rainbow/PUSH or Black Voters Matter, Transformative Justice Coalition or other non-partisan frontline activists. MLKing had to fight BOTH parties. There is no shortcut.
Q: Was Columbo your favorite TV detective? [via @mikeinmohaveaz.bsky.social]
A: Yes. My uncle wrote a number of the episodes. BBC News shows my reports to train investigative reporters. I told them to have reporters watch Columbo. My favorite trick of Columbo’s, which I’ve used for decades, is to make your investigative target think you’re stupid, lost, confused. They let down their guard. It also helps that I wear a beat-up old raincoat like Peter Faulk and show up in an old beater automobile.
Q: Have you been working on an AI version of yourself? [via @kybourbon.bsky.social]
A: Yes, but the AI attracts all the ladies and I’m jealous.
